Las Catrinas Hoja Santa 500g

Hoja Santa is a prehispanic herb, also known as acuyo

Grandmas tell a story about the origin of the name of this herb, which means Holly Leaf. According to them, this plant was chosen by Virgin Mary to set to dry baby Jesus’ cloth nappies. We know now it doesn’t make sense due to it’s prehispanic origin, being its original name tlanecpahquílitl,

Its flavour has notes of eucalyptus, anise, nutmeg, mint, tarragon and even black pepper.

Where to use it?

Being a tropical leaf, it is perfect to wrap fish and then wrap the fish in foil, to be roasted of baked, fish will be juicy and full of flavour.

You can use it to cook egg dishes, quesadillas, tamales, when cooking stuffed chillies.
